Westport, Ireland

From the client: I love my print of Westport, Ireland! It brings back great memories of my many trips to Ireland. Since 2000, I’ve been fortunate to travel with my two friends, BJ and Teri, my favorite priest, Fr. Ed Sheridan, and even my husband, Jim, on seven trips. Westport is a charming little town with an octagon at its center, lined with many shops, pubs and hotels. Our stay in Westport always takes us by Croagh Patrick, about 10 km from town. Local Pilgrims, as well as visitors, climb Croagh Patrick as St. Patrick did centuries ago. We climbed the mountain in 2003, which is something I consider to be one of my greatest accomplishments. It rained off and on and the winds were 60 mph the day we climbed. We were wet, cold, tired and bruised, but it was a great day! It took almost 3 hours to get up and 4 to get back down. Then we headed back to Westport for a great dinner, a hot bath and an early night to bed. ~ Diane B.

From the map maker: We were given several city options within Ireland for this commissioned print. A couple of the options didn’t work because there simply weren’t enough streets to make the map print interesting. While small quaint towns make for a perfect getaway, they sadly don’t always make great prints. But after researching Westport, we knew it would work out great. The combination of the denser town centers, the winding country roads and the Atlantic Ocean cutting through Clew Bay makes a great composition.  ~ Tony
